Mechanicsburg Area High School Percussion Ensemble- 2007
Creative potential is found in the moments between tension and release, in life and in music. In the music, tension is created by the relationship of the intervals, vertical or horizontal, by their occurrence in time, by forces of unity and variety. T ension creates emotional energy through anticipation and expectation; with that energy, there is potential for resolution through creative release. It is this emotional energy which is the stock in trade of the musician, and the artist in any field. Through harmony of tension and release the artist evokes both mood and meaning. The Mechanicsburg High School Percussion Ensemble provides a audiovisual representation of these principles in its 2007 production of………
TENSION and Release….
The ensemble is made up of 31 high school and middle school students who rehearse on weeknights and weekends to bring their performance to life and maintain the tradition of excellence they have set for themselves. The percussion unit was the 2006 KIDA Blue Moving Percussion Champion, were promoted from WGI Scholastic A to Scholastic Open, and were recipients of the 2006 TOB ACC High Percussion award in group 3 as part of the Group 3 Champion Marching Wildcat Band. The ensemble’s Director and Musical Arranger is Jim Weaver. Visual Design is by Brett Templin. The instructional staff includes Chris Pagotto, Steve MaClay, Jeff Ream, Dustin Smith, Brian Stockard, Jared Washburn, and Brad Wert.
